2013 GAY SCREENPLAY CONTEST - 15TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Fifteen years ago, Producer/Writer/Director David Jensen founded the ONE IN TEN SCREENPLAY CONTEST.  It was a time when much homophobia plagued so much of our nation and world.  Over the past 15 years many of our winners and entrants have gone on to have their screenplays optioned, purchased and produced and we honor their work.

THE ONE IN TEN SCREENPLAY CONTEST is the largest GLBTQ screenplay contest in the world and continues to grow.  It is one of the most respected niche contests in Hollywood, known for passing on high quality stories.

This year we continue to celebrate.  Enter your screenplay into the 2013 ONE IN TEN SCREENPLAY CONTEST by July 20, 2013 and receive a free gift from one of our many sponsors.

A few things to remember regarding this year's contest...

1.  You may enter more than one screenplay but no more than three.
2.  You may enter a pilot for a television series.  Just submit as if you were entering a screenplay.  *The page requirement does not apply to pilot entries.
3. This years contest is limited to the first 600 entries.
4. You may enter a previously entered script as long as it has been rewritten.
5. A special prize drawing will be held for all entrants this year.

2013 Gay Screenplay Contest - Who Is In Control of My Screenwriting Career?

It is amazing how we as screenwriters give our power away to others.  We try to figure out what to write next buy trying to guess what "They" will buy.  We send out our script and are very careful not to follow up too soon because we think we might be bothering "Them."  We send out query after query after query to try and get an agent and never hear back.  And if we follow up with "Them" and "They" tell us to stop bothering "Them" we apologize.  This sounds like a very depressing story and it is so very true.  The truth of the matter is that we are in complete control of our lives in every area and as scary as this is to read we know it speaks to the screenwriter in us as well.  So instead of trying to figure out what "They" want and if I am bothering "Them," Why don't I spend some time figuring out what I want and come up with a plan to make that happen.  Whose life am I living anyway?

2013 GAY SCREENPLAY CONTEST - Choose Your Title Carefully

When writing your screenplay, remember first impressions are everlasting and that means your title as well.  Try to pick a memorable title that paints the picture of your story.  Although one word titles are powerful and easier to market, don't just settle for the one word title.  Just make sure the title gives people a story image. Did you know that SNAKES ON A PLANE was sold based on the title alone?  Marketing is such a huge part of the movie business and a great title gives marketers something to build upon.
